The Asylum presents:

Ben Muñoz

Ben checked in to The Asylum with two blocks, a set of carving tools and a vision of chine colle. Check out what we got into September 2022.

Ben and I have worked together for a number of years and have developed a fun and wilidly productive collaborative relationship. During his time here in September 2022, we pushed the limits with some hand dyed mulberry. We used standard Community brand coffee and brewed it up really strong, diluted down to room temperature and sprayed the hell out of each sheet. Ben then decided which highlights to remove from the paper so it would create two tones using one color block. The way he carves created about a million different tones and textures. The edition that we used the mulberry on ended up also having seven different colors in one varied edition. I guess you could say we went a little mad about the subtle details.

We even made a metallic edition.

Ben worked passively on this block for a number of years before finishing it and shipping it to me. He wanted to explore metallic ink, and had some reservations about it. We went with a complex looking but simple mix of copper and silver to achieve a color so shimmery and reflective it will have you fighting with yourself to figure out just what color it is.
